Monday Musings

- I don't watch the Grammys so I have no opinion on them last night.

- I'm very glad John Amaechi has decided to come out of the closet but this is an absolute non-story. If former athletes who come out really want to help the gay community they should have the courage to come out while they are still playing. And I actually think Mark Cuban is right when he says the first team sport athlete to come out will make a fortune because of it.

- This was a good weekend for the Raptors despite losing to the Pistons Saturday night. The game against the Lakers Friday night showed they have come a long way in a short period of time and at the same time showed how far they have to go. The pissed away a double digit lead in the fourth quarter but held on to win. Two months ago they would have lost that game. But they need to learn to finish teams off. They should have won that game by 15 going away. Because they can't finish temas off at home you knew damn well they were going to lose a close game on the road to the Pistons. While the Rapas are showing great improvement they are still a year away from serious contention.

- Having watched the Lakers twice this weekend and about 15 other times this year I am convinced they are going to be terrifying to play in the playoffs. Andrew Bynum is improving by leaps and bounds and Lamar Odom is great now that he is healthy. The Suns better pray that they don't meet the Lakers in the playoffs because I seriously think the Lakers would pull off the upset. The Suns running game would play perfectly into Kobe's hands as a few easy layups would get him in the flow and he would start knocking down jumpers from all over the court. And the Suns don't have anyone who can wear him down on the defensive end.

- If there is going to be a sequel to Borat, whoever gets embarrassed this time will have no right to claim any wrong doing because they are clearly living under a rock.

Suns better pray they don't meet the Lakers in the playoffs??? Nonsense. They dusted them off in 6 games last year without arguably their best player. And with their game the Suns don't need an answer for Kobe. He's going to get his 38 points a night anyway but it's not as if he hits every shot, plus his supporting cast is only slightly above average. He might be the best player on the court at any given time but unquestionably the next 3 best players in that series would be, Nash, Matrix and Amare. Believe me the Suns would relish a match up with the Lakers. If they're healthy, Suns in 5. If not, Suns in 6.

This coming from a biased Suns fan who lives in Phoenix.

Odom is better than Matrix because Marion couldn't defend a fence post. Amare would pose a big problem for the Lakers but they would have 18 fouls to give between Bynum, Brown, and that Yugo dude.

I'm not saying the Lakers would beat them for certain but this Lakers team is a lot better than last years.
