This is News?

- How is Barry Bonds failing an amphetamine test newsworthy? Everyone knows the guy took every performance enhancer ever created.

- The Hockey Night In Canada contract is up for bid next year for those who weren't aware. So when CBC loses the contract to CTV as I suspect they will, what purpose will the CBC serve? I say absolutely none at all. As HNIC is their most profitable asset, how much more public money are they going to get?

- The role of pro sports in communities is often very overrated but it's hard not to see the New Orleans Saints playoff game this weekend as a very big deal.

I think that the departure of sports-hater Nancy Lee improves the likelihood that CBC will retain HNIC, but it will be competitive.

CTV is owned by Bell which has pretty depp pockets and will be able to outbid CBC. CBC is going to have trouble outbidding them because of the political optics of spending so much public money on it. We'll see. I think CBC losing the Olympics was the start of a trend.
