Movie Review "Casino Royale"

I saw this movie a week and a half ago and I have a lot of ground to cover today so this will be brief. This movie is awesome. Daniel Craig is perfect as 007 and is the best James Bond since Sean Connery. He brings a hard edge to the character that I thought should always be there. He is every bit as ruthless killing people as he is sauve with the ladies. When asked if he wants his martini shaken or stirred he simply says "Do I look as though I give a damn". One of my biggest beefs about the last four or five Bond flicks is that they were too stunt driven, too much CGI effects, too many gadgets. It was never what Bond was intended to be and the co-writers have smartly gone back to basics. This movie is all about spies doing spy stuff, agents double crossing each other, basic torture with a whip (the main villain, Le Chiffre, is played brilliantly by Mads Mikkelsen), and hot Bond girls such as Eva Green. There is also no bad pun every time Bond kills someone and the sexual banter between Craig and Green is fantastic. It runs a bit too long in the third act but it's a small quibble.

Rating 9/10
