The Pursuit Of Leisure

This Date In History.

On May 13, 1607, the Discovery, the Godspeed, and the Susan Constant arrived on Virginia’s shores. Their passengers would establish Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in America.

As someone with a proud sense of superiority in Anglo North Amrican culture I think this should have been marked a North American Holiday (except in Quebec because they never would have accepted it). As such, I plan to celebrate by firing up my BBQ, eating 2 pounds of read meat, reading Sports Illustrated, turning on my 32 inch flat screen and watching sporting events we all take far too seriously such as PGA Golf, NHL Hockey, NBA Basketball and Major League Baseball, and then finishing the day off with the Trailer Park Boys (the trailer park is right on the water in Halifax).

To celebrate the 400th anniversary, the Godspeed will sail from Jamestown to other ports along the United States’ East Coast.

A new national holiday celebrating the accomplishments of dead white men?

Imagine the howls of outrage.
